BJP brings traffic to a grinding halt

Traffic grinds to a halt as BJP celebrates

BANGALORE: Even as the BJP Satyagraha was called off on Monday, the ‘victory celebrations’ of the cracker bursting party cadre had a loud message.

It was Monday Blues again for the hapless motorists. Not just the roads around Town Hall, the venue for the satyagraha, but even arterial roads in a three km radius got blocked.

Richmond Road, Residency Road, St. Marks Road and Raja Rammohan Roy Road witnessed pile-ups that lasted for a few hours in the afternoon. BMTC buses, which were caught up on these roads tried to circumvent the main roads by turning into smaller roads.

However, this only aggravated the situation and led to more traffic jams. More than a hundred buses from Mayo Hall plying on Residency Road, skipped two stops and darted left towards Shoolay Circle.

Residency Road was choc-o-bloc with traffic. Commuters complained, but all their woes fell on deaf ears. As a result of this change in route, traffic at Shoolay Circle and on Richmond Road grew heavy. The traffic police had no option but to resort to manual theatrics after switching off the lights.

The continuous light shower also added to woes as some streets were flooded, forcing traffic movement to come to a standstill.
