Residents of Visvesvaraya Layout demand amenities

Residents of Visvesvaraya Layout demand amenities
Bangalore, Aug 22, DHNS:

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena had to face the ire of Visvesvaraya Layout residents, who not only blamed BDA officials for apathy but also warned of protest, if no civic amenities were provided to them.

The members of Sir M Visvesvaraya Layout Residents and Sites Owners Association (SVLRSOA) poured out their woes during an interaction with the Commissioner recently.
They demanded completion of the underground drainage (UGD) system and drew the Commissioner's attention to poor quality construction of the drainage chambers. Pointing out that the construction work has not been taken up in many parts of the layout, the residents demanded that work should be taken up immediately.

“Sewerage facility in the Layout is so pathetic that some of the residents have directed the drainage water into vacant sites,” complained a resident. The drainage water has also percolated into the borewell contaminating the potable water, the residents added.

Lack of electricity and poorly-lit streets, garbage menace and poor water supply were other problems plaguing the residents of Visvesvaraya Layout. Steps should be taken to contain the pollution caused by the illegal stone crushing unit in the vicinity.

“The BDA officials have been evasive and apathetic to our woes,” said H K Gowdaiah, Secretary, SVLRSOA. The BDA commissioner assured the residents of addressing the civic problems at the earliest and also directed the officials to be responsive to people’s problems.

He also ordered an inter-departmental meeting at the local level involving the residents to address the woes.
