City roads marred by ‘substandard’ civic work

City roads marred by ‘substandard’ civic work
Bangalore, Aug 21, DHNS:

Just one good spell of rain on Saturday evening and the City roads laid bare the substandard quality of work carried out by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The impact of the rain was maximum on the City roads with bitumin washing away leaving behind gravel. On Kanakapura Road, many new pot holes emerged and motorists had to run through the ditch which appeared within two hours.

Hardly a year ago the Palike had spent crores of rupees on asphalting the road.
Source in the Palike said in the last two years Rs 2,000 crore were spent on asphalting roads.

Bureaucratic rule

On the pathetic condition of the roads Leader of the Opposition in the Palike Council M Nagaraj alleged that substandard work has gone into laying the roads when the Palike was under the bureaucratic rule.

He demanded a thorough investigation into the quality of work done by the Palike in the last three years.

When contacted, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah, who was on night rounds with BBMP Engineer-In-Chief Gopalaswamy and other top Palike officials, said he would inspect such potholes as well. He said he would look into the matter at the earliest.
