Aug 21: More children are opting to go to school by BMTC buses after the transport department began its drive against drivers of school buses for rash driving and other irregularities.
The. BMTC's Vajra service is now becoming very popular with students who find the Volvos comfortable to get to school .

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, BMTC project manager, P.K. Garg said Vajra student passes were being issued to promote the service among students as they appeared to be using the service more frequently now. “After the transport department's drive, a large number of students have begun applying for the Vajra passes. We have issued over 300 student passes so far and hope to issue more of them in future,” he added. The Vajra pass for full time students is being sold at a promotional rate of Rs 900 a month as against the usual Vajra monthly pass which

costs Rs. 1400. “The Vajra student passes can also be obtained on-board the buses on production of a student ID . The pass is valid for travel on all services except the Vayu Vajra and Bengaluru Rounds,” Mr. Garg explained.
Students of schools with good bus connectivity are opting for them in bigger number than others. A parent, Vasudev Bhat, says the Vajra service appears a safe bet after the tranport department began pulling up drivers of school buses for rash driving and overloading them.

“We are confident our children are safe on the Vajra buses and they are also convenient to use,” he adds.
