BANGALORE: In what could be called as a classic example of fence eating crops, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has been vested with the responsibility to ensure basic amenities to citizens, has encroached a footpath on Seshadri Road.
The bricks and sand that were lying on the footpath for more than a week, cause inconvenience for the pedestrians. They are forced to use the road risking their lives.
One can see around 200 bricks and sand on the footpath besides the Fire Station on Seshdari Road. ‘’It will be difficult to walk on the road during peak hours. The pedestrians are left with no option but walk on the road,’’ said Kenche Gowda, a pedestrian.
The Fire and Emergency Services staff said that they did not know who dumped bricks and sand on the footpath.
Meanwhile, Idayavedhan, Executive Engineer (Gandhinagar division), BBMP, said: ‘‘The department of Major Roads has taken up road widening. They might have dumped construction material there. I will ask them to remove the material immediately,’’ he added.
The BBMP is yet to complete the work on a portion of Race Course Road and Seshadri Road.
S Nataraj, Corporator of Gandhinagar Ward, has blamed for delay in presenting the budget in the BBMP Council. ‘‘The delay has proved that BJP is not qualified to be a ruling party in the BBMP Council. Many have complained against the pending development works in my ward. How can I ensure either the completion of pending works or take up new works for the benefit of public?’’ asks Nataraj.
The corporator said that he would take measures to complete all the pending works provided the BBMP allots funds as early as possible.
