OVER TO YOU, Mr CM

OVER TO YOU, Mr CM
Here are some of the responses that we received from our readers regarding bad roads in their respective areas
Deccan HErald

Dear readers,

In the week-long series - ‘Mr CM, Are you listening?’ Deccan Herald partnered with the youth of Bangalore, to campaign against the poor condition of roads in the city. Journalism students from the City colleges ran a reality check, interacted with residents and traders and wrote what they saw and heard.

The response? Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy put the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and Bangalore Development Authority officials on their toes.

In two instances the BMP took up repairs at K R Market and Rahmat Nagar.

However, there was not a single response from any of the seven City Municipal Council authorities, though most of the problems highlighted were from the CMC areas.

Call it sheer apathy on the part of CMC officials, or the fallout of the Greater Bangalore plan that is yet to be

implemented. Unlike the BMP, the CMCs failed to rise to our challenge.

Another disturbing finding was that none of the elected representatives — corporators, MLAs or MPs — came forward with answers to questions raised by Bangaloreans.

It is time for citizens to take charge. The stakeholders — residents, traders, road users — should assert their rights as tax payers.

Here are some of the responses that we received from our readers regarding bad roads in their respective areas:

The condition of Ist Main, Koramangala is pathetic, thanks to potholes and protruding manholes. The road has not even been asphalted since December 2003. This generates huge amount of dust in dry condition and slush when it rains. We cannot open the doors and windows of our house. There is no footpath, so we are forced to walk on the street. Please bring our problems to the notice of this sleeping government.

Koramangala, Ist Block

I would like to draw your attention to the pathetic condition of West Park Road in Malleswaram. This small road running from Malleswaram 7th cross to 18th cross, situated between Sampige and Margosa roads has been neglected for over 14 years. The road has not been asphalted for decades, and is now full of potholes. Of late many multi-storied commercial complexes have come up on this stretch. There is no proper drainage on this road. Several complaints were made to the BMP but were of no use. When will our problems be addressed?

West Park Road, Malleswaram

We are the residents of Lake Shore Homes, a layout situated on the Link Road connecting Sarjapura Road and Hosur Road, via Kasavanahalli, Amrita Institute of Science and Technology, Central Jain and Mico Factory. This five km road is the main link between the central parts of the city and Electronic City. The pothole ridden road, earlier asphalted, has no trace of asphalt now. Our petitions to the authorities have gone unanswered.

Haralur Road has become a nightmare for residents staying in the various apartment complexes built along this road. Years of neglect by the authorities has made Haralur Road a stretch of dust and dirt.

Beyond Haralur, the road is a mud track with a narrow section joining Hosur Road at the Naganathapura turn. If this road is developed, it could provide a quicker alternative to commuters, and also reduce the traffic that passes through Silk Board.

The roads in Navodhaya Nagar at JP Nagar VII Stage is in a very bad shape. Neither the Government nor the Bommanahalli CMC has taken any action so far. Chief Minister had once attended as a chief guest to a homa that the residents had offered to speed up development of the locality. The benefits are yet to reach us.

Mohan,

JP Nagar VII Phase

We, the residents of Chikka Banaswadi, would like to bring to your attention the deplorable state of the main road connecting the flyover to the Ring Road via Kasturi Nagar.

The BWSSB dug the road to install the sewerage lines, but have not repaired it. Added to the road chaos, a site owner has let out his site for slum dwellers on rent, who are now using the drains and neighbouring sites to relieve themselves.

We only wish the corporator visited the ward at least once in every six months to monitor the situation.
