Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has just announced the launch of a massive e-Governance programme, complete with an all-new website. While the website itself is slated to be launched on Independence Day, BMP has promised the addition of one programme or feature a month to finally round off with the budget by next April.

In other words, BMP is promising to be wholly e-linked both internally (among its department, zones and staff) and externally (with the citizens) by the next financial year.

As per its earlier plans on e-governance, BMP is understood to have completed GIS-related survey in 30 of its 100 wards. But Commissioner K Jairaj on Friday noted that he is not happy with the said survey. “Basic data is available, but we are not able to derive any benefit from the data yet,” he explained.

The significant aspect being the real-time Public Grievance Redressal (PGR) system. It is said that at the minimal level the envisaged PGR system will help BMP identify and list out various types of complaints or problems and their category-wise locations.

Following are some of the promised programmes and features:

Property tax

Improves tax compliance and hence the total collection

Tax Calculation Supported: Annual Rental Value, Unit Area and Capital Value Systems

Citizen friendly, pay anywhere: Office, bank and field payments

Rich feature set: Property registration, transfer, bifurcation, amalgamation

Integrates with other e-Governance Modules: with GIS system

Extensive Reports - MIS, GIS and Visual Reports: at City, Ward, Street levels.

Public Grievance

Citizen Friendly System: Internet, phone, paper form, complaint tracking number

Citizen-Municipality interaction

Auto routing to appropriate officer

Electronic inbox for municipal staff

Visual – pie-charts and GIS reports.
