It was a case of benign laddus being mistaken for bombs. An abandoned briefcase caused panic in a moving BMTC bus on Saturday morning, before the bomb detection squad realised that the briefcase contained four Tirupati laddus.

It was a case of benign laddus being mistaken for bombs. An abandoned briefcase caused panic in a moving BMTC bus on Saturday morning, before the bomb detection squad realised that the briefcase contained four Tirupati laddus.

The police control room received an anonymous call about the abandoned briefcase in a bus (route number 303F) heading towards City Market from K R Puram at 10 am.

The control room alerted the Ulsoor police and sent dog and bomb detection squads to the spot. The police team intercepted the bus near Adarsh theatre in Ulsoor and asked passengers to alight from the bus to search for the briefcase. Later the brief case was taken to a nearby playing ground.

It was then that the bomb detection squad saw four Tirupati laddus in the briefcase!

Police said a passenger who probably was on his way back from from Tirupati might have forgotten the briefcase, which also contained some clothes, in the bus.

The identity of the caller who informed the control room could not be ascertained as the call was made from a public booth. The police could not trace the owner of the briefcase either as it did not contain any documents to establish identity.
