Bangalore: With the Karnataka High Court clearing the decks for Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) to complete the
41-km Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) peripheral road, 3 acres and 1 gunta of land belonging to Sunny Holiday Village in Gottigere were acquired, and structures on it demolished.
Demolition of residential units started as early as 6 am on Saturday, by 250 men who arrived with bulldozers at the resort, owned by H K Pattabhiraman. Mico Layout police were present during the demolition. Within hours, the entire resort was razed.
The peripheral road will connect Tumkur Road, Magadi Road, Kanakapura Road, Bannerghatta Road and Hosur Road.
NO NOTICE WAS GIVEN: OWNER
Pattibhiraman said: “No notice was given to me with regard to demolition. As per rules, under the resettlement and rehabilitation package of NICE, 90 days’ time must be given to land owner in cases of acquisition. I pleaded with them to give just 15 days’ time, but they demolished the buildings. This was a property worth Rs 7 crore when I built it; I have nothing now.”
NICE VIEW
A spokesperson for NICE said the company got possession of the land a year ago through a HC directive. “There was a road built on one side all the way up to Hosur Road, but due to this building, there was a 150-metre gap between the roads. This was a hurdle for commuters coming from Electronic City, and they had no choice but to take a deviation up to Tumkur Road.”
