BBMP nod must for civic agencies

BBMP nod must for civic agencies
Bangalore, July 17, DHNS

Civic agencies such as the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) will henceforth have to obtain mandatory permission from the Bangalore Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike before laying cables and pipe lines.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the coordination committee of various civic agencies here on Saturday. The meeting resolved that all the three agencies should obtain permission from the BBMP for laying cables before a road is asphalted. On its part, the BBMP will have to obtain programme of works from Bescom, KPTCL and other agencies before asphalting.

Further, the KPTCL will have to compulsorily obtain fresh permission from the BBMP for digging trenches to lay cables. At present, the KPTCL is using old permission.

The meeting also directed the BWSSB to plug all leakages on MG Road before July 31 to enable the BMRCL to lay the road. Further, it will have to compulsorily incorporate restoration work in its estimate to avoid haphazard digging of roads. Moreover, it will have to coordinate with the police before digging the road for laying the pipelines.

In order to ensure better coordination, a meeting of a zonal committee, chaired by the Zonal Joint Commissioners, will be held every fortnight in which representatives of the BWSSB, the BESCOM, the KPTCL and the traffic police will take part. With the intention of restricting the manufacture of plastics to less than 20 microns, a separate task force will be set up involving the Karnataka Pollution Control Board and the BBMP. The meeting was chaired by Dr A Ravindra, Advisor to the Chief Minister.
