Elevated highway to come up at Hebbal

BANGALORE: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has prepared an ambitious plan to construct a 3.5-km long elevated highway between Hebbal flyover and Yelahanka bypass junction.
The soil investigation test is in progress for the highway, as part of the project that will also involve the strengthening of the Bangalore International Airport Road, according to reliable sources.
“The total length of the road is 20 km.
Apart from the 6-lane elevated highway, service roads will be strengthened where it is necessary,” said Ravi Sudhakar, manager, NHAI.
The elevated highway is meant to ensure a signal-free passage from Hebbal to Yelahanka.
“We will construct either a mini flyover or an underpass at the traffic juctions at the remaining part of the road between Yelahanka and Bangalore International Airport (BIA) Road. If it becomes a reality, vehicles can move on the road without any problem,” Sudhakar said.
NHAI sources reveal that Navyuga has bagged the contract to construct the elevated highway and service roads.
“The contract has been awarded to Navyuga under the built operate and transfer (BOT) model. The company will transfer the elevated highway to the government after collecting the toll for 20 years,” he said.
The construction work for the highway is expected to start in six months.
