Vittal Mallya Road is now ‘World class’

Vittal Mallya Road is now ‘World class’
Bangalore: June 3, DHNS:

Finally motorists travelling on the Vittal Mallya Road in the City can heave a sigh of relief. The inauguration of the 'global standard' Vittal Mallya Road saw many a happy faces including those of the residents.

The renovated road was inaugurated by the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and the UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya on Thursday.

Recalling the problems motorists faced over the past two decades since the maintenance of the road was handed over to the UB group in 1987 by the then Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), Mallya said the road was a “comedy of errors.” “Every time we asphalted the road, a civic agency would come and dig up the stretch for laying a cable or two. From electrical lines to optic fibres to telephone lines all the agencies would come one after the other,” he recalled.

He apologised to the residents on either side of the road for the persistent delay and was hopeful that the citizens will now be happy with the renovated stretch of road.
He said the road was a testimony to Bangalore’s growing global image. “Keeping in mind the global image of Bangalore, the road stands to be a model example of the infrastructure development happening in the City,” he said.

Yeddyurappa agreed in his inaugural speech that the road was indeed a model road. “I am happy and hope that more private enterprises will come forward under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to develop such infrastructure projects,” he said.
Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner, Bharat Lal Meena appreciated the quality of the road and said that his engineers will be able to emulate it in other parts of the City when opportunity arises.

CM’s offer to Vijay Mallya
The Chief Minister appealed to Vijay Mallya to increase and expand his fleet to introduce new flights to Mysore. “It has been nearly six months since the inception of the Mysore airport, but no commercial airlines have proposed to venture into these airports”, he said.

He said that the State government was more than willing to chip in if the airlines went into a loss during the initial phase.

“We will be happy to bear certain amount of financial burden in case Kingfisher Airlines ran into a loss for the initial few months,” he said.
