Residents pay price for poor planning

Residents pay price for poor planning
Bangalore, May 23, DHNS:

The residents of Kumaraswamy Layout have to pay the price for lack of foresightedness on the part of the Bangalore Development Authrority in layout formation.

Formed some 25 years ago, the layout has a main road of 30 feet width starting from Kadirenahalli Cross to Yelchenahalli. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, under the Comprehensive Development Plan-2015, has now proposed to widen the city roads including the one mentioned above.

The BBMP is yet to serve notices on the residents living on both sides of the road to part with their properties. It is being said that the road would be widened by 20 feet on either side.

There are only a few vacant sites left from Dayananda Sagar college to Yelchenahalli. However, it is equally true that the main road of KS Layout is too narrow for the ever expanding Bangalore. The BMTC bus drivers face difficulty in negotiating the narrow road.

Lack of vision

The BBMP officials admit that the BDA lacked vision due to which the BBMP would have to carry out demolition drive at Kumaraswamy Layout with or without the consent of the residents. But such “acceptance” is not a justification to acquire the properties.

A resident Manjula is angry that the BDA simply could not discharge its duty. “What kind of planning authority the BDA is? It could not plan a layout properly. It is even worst than the revenue layout developers who at least make a provision of 40 feet wide main road,” she fumed.

Manjula said theirs house was not on a revenue land and the BDA should be penalised for poor planning. The BDA should pay compensation to the affected persons at the market rate, she demanded. Manoj L, another affected person suggests that the BBMP should make the roads having 15-E and 15-F bus stops
one-way.
