Traffic goes haywire on City roads

The Sunfeast-10K Marathon resulted in traffic chaos and parking woes near Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday.

Participants were seen scrambling to make it on time to the race line. “It was a good thing that we made it before 7.30 am. If not, we could be heading for trouble to participate in the marathon,” said one of the participants.

The Bangalore traffic police were in full force trying to ensure diversions were in place. The services of traffic wardens were also requisitioned, but to no avail. Hapless motorists faced traffic moving at snail’s pace into Hudson circle. Stretching from Race Course road through Seshadri Road and Maharani College junction into Nrupathunga Road, there was extreme “slow” movement of traffic. People traversing the stretch were found taking nearly an hour-and-a-half to reach the other side leading to NR Road. The jam was at its peak in this area at around 10 am and went on till 1 pm.

Tiresome

“The slow movement of traffic on a Sunday was extremely tiresome. Moreover, emergency cases in ambulances were stuck because of the pile up on the Seshadri Road stretch,” said Suresh, a motorist who was stuck in the traffic for nearly two hours.

The same fate was meted out to motorists on J C Road and parts of Mission Road, albeit only for an hour-and-a half. When contacted, Traffic police denied any traffic jam but admitted that most vehicular movement was “slow” due to the marathon.

“While there was no traffic in the early hours of the day, we had already eased half the traffic movement by 10.30 am,” said ACP (Traffic) (West) Chandrashekar.
