100-day litmus test off MG Rd

100-day litmus test off MG Rd
Traffic Diversions for Metro Work
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: It’s a 100-day ordeal starting Monday — commuters have to endure traffic nightmares around MG Road, Ulsoor and surrounding areas, with Bangalore Metro work forcing closure of the stretch between Webbs Junction and Trinity Circle. From March 15 till June, no vehicles will be allowed on this stretch, the traffic police have said.
Vehicles plying on MG Road towards Old Airport Road will have to take a right at Mayo Hall towards Commissariat Road and a left at Garuda Mall leading to Hosmat Road, and finally a right at India Garage Junction, to reach Old Airport Road
Vehicles plying on MG Road towards KR Puram through Trinity Circle have to take a right at Webbs Junction or Manipal Junction towards Dickenson Road leading towards Tiruvalluvar statue near War Memorial Road and MEG Centre. After reaching Kensington Road, vehicles can move towards KR Puram.
On a temporary basis, two-way is now allowed from Begum Mahal towards Trinity Circle. Vehicles coming from KR Puram towards City Market will have to take the two-way from the gurdwara towards Trinity Circle to continue towards Richmond Circle and Vellara Junction
The traffic police had earlier advised commuters from Old Airport Road to use the less-used Brunton Road to reach MG Road. This came on the wake of closure of the stretch between Kids Kemp and ING Vysya Bank on MG Road, from Trinity Circle to Anil Kumble Circle. Motorists coming from Old Airport Road towards GPO have to take left U-turn towards Richmond Road in front of Saboo Silks, followed by a right towards Brunton Road and join MG Road next to ING Vysya Bank.
Additional commissioner of police (traffic and security) Praveen Sood said on the first day, the police had a tough time manning the curious and confused riders. “We had put over 200 boards across the blocked roads, but curious riders came till the dead-end and then took a U-turn back. However, we expect things to return to normal in the next two days.”
WHAT IT MEANS
The trouble begins at Trinity Circle, which will remain shut till June. It’s a crucial junction between Indiranagar, Old Airport Road leading to Hosur Road-Bannerghatta Road Junction, MG Road-Whitefield.
The problem starts with diversion of traffic from Indiranagar towards Trinity Circle. Commuters are forced to take a diversion at Anjaneya Temple Junction and move towards Kensington Junction on Ulsoor Lake. However, they cannot take a right turn there, as the road is dug up near MEG Centre. They have to proceed towards the gurdwara and then take a U-turn.
The trouble here is that buses and trucks cannot take a right as there isn’t enough place. Therefore, the road between Trinity Circle and the gurudwara has been made two-way.
Star hotel shows the way
With parts of MG Road being closed for the next 100 days, many business establishments along the stretch have begun to re-work their entry.
The Oberoi has drawn up a temporary plan for its guests. Those coming from Old Airport Road into Trinity Circle can diagonally cut across the road and enter the hotel. But those coming from other parts — Sanjaynagar, Cox Town or BIA through Ulsoor Road — must go till Dickenson Road, head to Mayo Hall Junction, proceed on Commissariat Road, take a left before Garuda Mall and proceed towards Trinity Circle to enter The Oberoi.
