Bangalore: Reacting to the report ‘City on fast track of confusion’ published in the TOI edition dated December 23, the BDA has issued a clarification:
“The government of Karnataka, vide GO No. UDD/368/MNX/2008 dated August 30, 2008, entrusted 1,554 works costing Rs 623.09 crore to be executed by BDA with its own finances. List of the 1,554 works which was prepared by BBMP in consultation with the area MLAs was approved and provided to BDA as an annexure to the GO. Further, BDA in its board’s resolution vide subject No 368/08 dated August 30, 2008, resolved to take up these works as desired by the state government.
“As directed by the government, works were tendered by forming packages for effective implementation. Work orders for 284 packages comprising 1,330 works worth Rs 557.2 crore were issued in accordance with the KTTP Act by due process of tenders. Though work orders for most of these works were issued in February 2009, work could not be commenced due to the model code of conduct for Parliamentary elections and unprecedented rain.
“In the 12 assembly constituencies, 159 packages comprising 733 works has already been completed. Balance works are in final stages. Most of them will be completed by yearend, barring the ones for which orders have
been recently issued.
“Also, to ensure quality of works, four project management consultants equipped with NABL-accredited laboratories have been appointed. All quality tests are well documented... BDA has been inspecting most of the works periodically. BBMP commissioner after inspection of works has also openly acknowledged the good quality in an open meeting on December 22, 2009.”
