The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), in a serious bid to ensure that developmental works continue without further delay.


The Mahanagara Palike has been holding marathon meetings with the Zonal Commissioners and the Engineering division.

It is learnt that the BBMP commissioner, Bharat Lal Meena has given express orders to ensure that all works at the ward-level are completed by the year end.

“The Commissioner is quite serious about completion of the ward-level works as per schedule within this year end,” informed a Palike official. Meena has further directed the zonal chiefs and executive engineers to float tenders for all the pending works as soon as possible.

KLAC involvement

Unlike previous years, where there used to be at least 20 percent of spillover in works, this time the Commissioner has reportedly asked the Palike authorities to involve the Karnataka Land Army Corporation (KLAC) for extra hands. “If the zones are unable to get the contractors to do the job, then Karnataka Land Army Corporation will be given the estimates and the work order to execute the work,” informed the official. Currently, the BBMP has awarded 300 works to the KLAC at the standard rates prescribed by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Meanwhile, strict action will be taken against contractors who fail to stick to the schedule in completing the works awarded.

Accordingly, the Mahanagara Palike has constituted eight teams of three members each, including a senior Palike official, a superintendent engineer and a ward-level official to inspect works that are being carried out in the City.

“In case negligence or delay in work completion comes to light, a notice will be issued to the contractor with an extension. But if the contractor fails to comply even within that period then he will be blacklisted,” said the official.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike on Friday also placed the ward-level developmental projects online.

Every small work at the ward-level is classified under the BBMP zones in the list on the Palike website.
