Here is a reason for cheer to citizens who are wondering what the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is doing in their respective areas. Palike has now come with its web project monitoring system through which anybody can see on line its projects under way.
On Tuesday, the BBMP launched its e-procurement and web project monitoring system through which Palike aims to develop transparency, security, quickness, and effectiveness. To begin with, the system was implemented in Bommanahalli and Mahadevapura zones.
The BBMP is the 35th government agency to take up e-procurement in the state.
"With the web project monitoring system, anybody can access the status of the BBMP work in any area. The website includes details of the project, exact location where the work is in progress, name of the contractor, funds allotted so far and utilised, date of initiation of the project, and benefits of the project. The website will also have pictorial representation of the work in progress. The website will be updated constantly," said Bharatlal Meena, commissioner of BBMP.
The BBMP officials, from now onwards, will be using e-signature to avoid delay in the execution of works. They were trained in this regard. This was initiated during the inauguration of e-procuring by giving e-signature identity cards to a few engineers of Mahadevapura zone.
"Contractors who are blacklisted cannot have access to the financial bids in the e-tendering. In fact, the real time monitoring on a continuous basis brings in more quality consciousness among the contractors," said K M Shiv Kumar, administrator, BBMP. According to him, this is one of BBMP's initiatives to make the department more citizen-friendly.
Some of the benefits of the system to citizens are better utilisation of tax payers money, access to the status of works, and view of public procurement procedures.
BBMP will also be benefited in a big way by the system. Tender opportunities will be effectively publicised among the contractor community so that there will be open competition and no room for contractor's lobby. Costs will be cut on account of competitive bids. The system will keep a track record of the contractor's performance. It will also ensure faster file movements and integrated file monitoring system. r_sunitha@dnaindia.net
