More JNNURM buses

BANGALORE: Bangaloreans will get more number of hi-tech buses to commute. As many as 200 buses, which have been purchased under the JNNURM scheme of the Centre, will be flagged off in Bangalore on September 5 by Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy.

BMTC Managing Director Syed Zameer Pasha told presspersons on Monday that Bangalore will get a total of 1,000 buses with the JNNURM assistance of Rs,. 323 crore. About 200 buses from these were being inaugurated now and the remaining would join the fleet soon.

Each bus would cost about Rs. 21 lakh, of which 35 per cent of the cost was borne by the Government of India while the State Government was chipping in 15 per cent of the cost. Remaining 50 per cent of the cost was taken care of by the BMTC, he noted.
