BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which is in the process of filing objections for a writ petition filed against it has stated that the 33-km Bangalore Metro network is expected to be commissioned by September 2012.
The BMRCL also stated that the project when completed will provide train service at an interval of 4 minutes initially and it will be reduced to 3 minutes in due course. The project is expected to carry 10.2 lakh passengers per day by 2011 which is likely to increase to 19.72 lakh passengers per day by 2021.
Delhi-based Logwell Forge Ltd had filed a writ petiton stating that they are manufacturing fastening equipment which is capable of being used in the project that is being implemented by BMRCL.
The petitioner has also stated that they can get the approval for their product from the Railway Board by the time the supplies are affected.
The petitioner has requested the court to direct BMRCL to consider their product. The BMRCL contended that it is using the Vossloh 336 fastening system, that binds the rail to the sleeper, and that the petitioner’s product was not tested.
The high court has reserved judgement for August 11.
