Lalbagh gets ready for the Horticultural show.

BANGALORE: It’s that time of the year again; the Independence Day Horticultural Show organised by the Department of Horticulture and the Mysore Horticultural Society at Lalbagh will be inaugurated on August 7.
More than 300 varieties of flowers - orchids, roses, carnation, to name a few, will be on display during the show.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, regarding the uniqueness of this year’s show, N Jayaram, Chairman, Mysore Horticultural Society and Director of Horticulture, said, “Use of plastics inside Lalbagh will not be allowed during the show. We have called for a ban in the form of request.” “There will be around 60-65 stalls, and more than 680 participants from across the state. Last year we had around six lakh visitors. This year we are expecting more,” he added.
The Indo-American Society will be presenting 100 new varieties of orchids.
With a major intention of attracting the children different colours of roses will be used to form dinosaurs, dolphins, deer, elephants, teddy bears and Mickey Mouse.
Around 80 rare varieties of flowers can also be seen at the show. In order to avoid rush at the glass house, around 450 varieties of flowers will be on display at the Cactus house also. Ikebana, Indian floral art, vegetable carving, Dutch flower arrangements, dry flowers, Thai-Art, Jannur and Bonsai shows will be inaugurated on August 8.
Entry tickets will be available at Lalbagh Main gate, Double Road gate, Siddapura gate and Basavanagudi gate.
On August 14 school children will be provided free entry from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm.
Pepping up the security, door frame metal detectors, CCTV, hand-held metal detectors will be used at various corners of Lalbagh. Police help centres and ambulances will also be present.
