qNARROW ROADS, METRO BARRICADES WREAK HAVOC ON WEST ZONE ROADS The ongoing work on reach 3 of BMRC has made traffic conditons only worse with barricades having come up in the middle of the roads

: Some of the rich and famous live in BBMP West Zone, home to posh localities like Sadashivanagar, and Raj Mahal Vilas Extension, besides crowded Malleswaram and Rajajinagar
Dotted with temples, hospitals and educational institutions, the zone sees some of the worst traffic jams in the city
The ongoing work on reach three of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has made traffic conditons only worse with barricades having come up in the middle of the roads
While there may be fewer potholes here, the narrow width of the roads causes inconvenience in some areas, where even the autorickshaws have difficulty getting through
A drainage system which regularly gets blocked with rubbish thrown into it has more than one consequence
The recent rainfall saw a painter being swept away in a flooded stormwater drain
While such accidents are rare, the outbreak of diseases like dengue, chikungunya, cholera and malaria, is not. People living in Kamalanagar, Shivanagar, Prakashnagar, Manjunathanagara, KR Market and Nandini Layout often fall sick due to the unhygienic conditions they live in
The people blame the blocked drains and manholes for the breeding of mosquitoes that are bringing the diseases to them. Those living in Manjunathanagar, Shivanagar and Kamalanagar are furious with the lack of interest shown by the BWSSB and the BBMP in desilting and clearing the drains and manholes
Low-lying areas here, like elsewhere in the city, are regularly flooded when it rains, with water gushing ‘ into homes, giving people sleepless nights. While door-to-door garbage clearance may be more efficient in this zone than in other parts, garbage is still seen strewn on the roads and dumped in the drains, much to the irritation of the residents, who are demanding that their problems be heard
