BBMP steps up drive

BBMP steps up drive

Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: In a few months, all signboards will be in Kannada. According to an order given to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) about two months ago by the Kannada Development Authority (KDA), practically any public text will have to be in Kannada, while the display of text in English and other languages will be optional.

An official of the BBMP said that the BBMP had begun the drive on pulling down shop signboards and insisting that menus in restaurants be in Kannada also.

He said that the KDA has asked for Kannada to be mandatory in three different areas — administration within the BBMP, commercial establishments, and also hoarding and billboards.

“The administration part of the order has been fulfilled,” said the official.
