Met office predicts rain in next 3 days

Bosky Khanna. Bangalore

At last, some good news about the monsoon — the Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall for Karnataka in the next 48 hours to three days. Showers are expected to cool the city further. IMD Bangalore Director A Muthachami said, "Coastal Karnataka and regions in the Western Ghats will receive very heavy rainfall, while interior Karnataka including Bangalore, will experience a dip in temperature. Strong winds and a drizzle are expected in interior Karnataka. North interior Karnataka will receive light to moderate rainfall."
The IMD Bangalore director explained, "The reason for this change is the pressure gradient, which has increased in the west coast. Wind speeds are rising, and given the moisture content of the winds and the fact that the hills are helping in cloud formation, we can expect good rains. Wind speed, presently at about 30 km per hour, is expected to rise to about 50 km per hour. We expect gusty winds."
However, IMD officials add that Karnataka is presently facing a 29 per cent deficit in rainfall. While rainfall in July is expected to be normal, that will not make up for the lack of rain in the other months of the year. Rain in August and September will also depend on wind speed and direction, which cannot yet be foretold.
