100-day EPIC drive begins today

100-day EPIC drive begins today

The Election Commission announced the location of seven voter facilitation centres in Bangalore Urban district. Although identity cards have been issued to 13,39,406 voters, 34.86% of the electorate are yet to get these cards

As has already been announced by the Election Commission, Electoral Voters' Identity Cards will be distributed in a special drive beginning from July 1. The drive will last 100 days, and end on October 10. In addition to the list of centres from where voters can avail their cards, the Election Commission on Tuesday announced the centres from where voters can get EPICs in the remaining seven assembly constituencies that fall in the Bangalore Urban District.
"The EPIC maximisation programme has been initiated to provide voters' identity cards to a larger number of people. People can approach the VFCs from today for their cards. There will be one counter at these centres to handle queries, and another to issue EPIC cards. The process will thus be smooth," said Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner GN Nayak.
He added that the VFCs and Designated Photo Locations (DPLs) will work even on Sundays, but remain closed on Mondays. The VFCs will function from 9am to 7pm with a lunch break from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
"Of the 20,808,263 voters, identity cards have been given to at least 13,39,406 in the Bangalore Urban District. We are yet to distribute EPIC cards to 34.86% of the voters — 7,48,857 people," said Nayak.
Nayak said that EPIC cards would be given immediately to those whose names are already on the list; correction of name and age or address will be done once the requisite forms are provided, and the necessary documents.
