On Saturday noon, a dog suspected to be rabid badly mauled a three-year-old boy who was having lunch in front of his home. Considering his age, Santosh has suffered serious injuries. His parents, who are labourers, are unable to afford the cost of the treatment.
DOG GOES BERSERK
Santosh was having lunch in front of his makeshift home located on 6th Cross of Cadmet Layout about 100 metres away from the CM’s residence when the dog attacked him. Muniyamma, a neighbour who witnessed the incident, revealed that the dog pounced on the kid and started biting him on the face. “I ran towards the boy, but I fell after slipping,” she said. By that time, Vasu, Santosh’s uncle arrived on the scene, and he charged at the dog and and kicked it. “Even after that it did not relent and I had to drag the dog which was still going at the kid. It tried to bite me also. Fortunately, I managed to escape,” Vasu said. Santosh’s mother is in the post-natal period and is nursing a six-month-old infant. She fainted after seeing her son bleeding.
FAMILY AT A LOSS
As the news spread, Sanjaynagar and R T Nagar police rushed to the spot along with BBMP officials and caught the dog within an hour.
The boy’s father Hanumantha said that he had to spend about Rs 400 per injection for the boy and has used up all his money.
He has no money for tomorrow’s injection. “The weather is chilly due to rain and the injuries are quite deep. A part of the wound has got septic. I don’t know what will happen to my kid”, he laments.
Local BJP leaders have given a bottle of Horlicks and some cash to the family. Right now, Manjula, a neighbour is providing shelter for the boy and his family in her house.
If anyone wants to help the kid, they can call Hanumantha on 9900321798.
