BDA yet to acquire land: CM

The Bangalore Development Authority has not yet acquired land for the five new proposed BDA layouts. The total land required is 15,277 acre, according to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

The land required for the five layouts is as follows - Nadaprabhu Kempegowda layout: 4,814.15 acre; Dr K Shivaram Karanath layout: 3,456.12 acre; Kyasamballi Changal Rayareddy layout: 2,134. 9 acre; D Devaraj Urs layout: 1,976.02 acre and S Nijalingappa layout: 2,806.09 acre.

These details were provided by the Chief Minister in a written reply, to a question posed by H D Revanna (JDS) in the legislative assembly.

The government has not given any compensation to those from whom the land is going to be acquired for layout formation, as the process of land acquisition is yet to be completed. It is proposed to form 1,68,065 sites in the five layouts.

Of these, 12,000 sites will be sanctioned to the poor who have no sites, and those who have meagre income.

The Chief Minister said that the process of land acquisition for the Shivaram Karanth and Kempe Gowda layouts has begun. For the other three layouts, it has been planned to acquire 27 villages between Old Madras road and Hosur road.

No infrastructure

To an unstarred question by N A Haris (Cong) regarding BDA layouts which have not been provided with basic infrastructure facilities, Yeddyurappa stated works were still pending in Anjanapura extension, Banashankari 6th phase extension, Sir M V layout, extension of Sir M V layout and Arkavathi layout.

Barring Arkavathi layout, in the rest four layouts, BWSSB is yet to provide water and drainage facility. In Anjanapura, power supply has been given, and in the rest three, the work to supply power is going on. In case of Arkavathi layout, no facility has been provided as the land acquisition case is pending before the Supreme Court.

Cauvery water

Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu has stated that plans are afoot to drill 1,000 more borewells to meet the demand for water in Bangalore.

Replying to an unstarred question of Roshan Baig (Cong) in the Assembly, Naidu in his written reply said there is drinking water shortage in the City. About 80 million litres of additional water is being brought to the City. As an urgent measure, water is being supplied from 1,390 borewells. In addition, 1,000 more borewells are going to be drilled, he added.

The Cauvery 4th phase, II stage to supply water to Bangalore will be completed in 2011-12 and the under ground drainage work be over in 2012-13.
