CM Stands His Ground, Subramanya Relieved Of Post
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Sending a strong message that he will not buckle under pressure, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa stood his ground on BBMP commissioner S Subramanya’s transfer, even as a couple of BJP MLAs made a futile bid to retain the official on Saturday.
Subramanya has been replaced by
Bharatlal Meena, who was secretary, social welfare department. Meena did a short stint in BBMP by holding additional charge of the commissioner’s post, when Subramanya had gone on leave following an accident.
Subramanya, who has done his doctorate in plant pathology, is principal secretary, agriculture department. TOI, in its June 12 edition, broke the story that Meena would replace Subramanya.
“Nothing doing on the transfer issue. We have met here to discuss the BBMP polls,’’ Yeddyurappa is reported to have told some legislators, who raised the issue at the fag end of the meeting. Subramanya, a good official who had established a rapport with elected representatives and initiated a few changes to ease traffic, came under a cloud on his handling of six-year-old Abhishek’s case. The boy had slipped into a drain during heavy rain on May 31 and his body is still untraced. Besides his insensitive remarks on how the mother should have been careful, and filing a defamation suit against Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde for his observations on BBMP’s functioning, had angered the CM.
At the meeting, Yeddyurappa reiterated the government’s decision to hold the BBMP polls by July 31, as mandated by the court. On this issue too, some legislators are said to have requested the CM to seek more time from court, which has already given several extensions. The legislators wanted pending works in their constituencies to be completed before the polls as the model code of conduct will halt all work. However, Yeddyurappa is said to have told legislators that polls would be held within the deadline set by the high court, and asked them to complete the works before the poll notification by the State Election Commission.
After the meeting, Yeddyurappa was in for a surprise. All the legislators present at the meeting said they were with him and asked the CM not to worry about the dissident group in the party.
