Subramanya’s shifting mired in pressure politics

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa on Friday had to put on hold the proposed transfer of BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya following pressure from a section of his party MLAs.

BJP MLAs - B N Vijay Kumar, Dr Ashwathnarayan, Nandish Reddy, S R Vishwanath and Ravi Subramanya representing the City, met him as early as 6:30 am and demanded that Subramanya should not be transferred.

They said that transfer of the officer was uncalled for at this juncture. “Rainy season has begun and BBMP has a major role to play to avoid rain related problems. If a new officer is appointed as commissioner he will take at least six months to understand the problem”, they argued.

The MLAs also said after Subramanya took over the Palike, the collection of property tax increased and development works witnessed progress. He should be allowed to continue atleast till the polls are held for the Palike. They also alleged that Bharat Lal Meena, whose name was heard for the post, did not clear even a single file when he was appointed in-charge commissioner for one-month’s period. An MLA, who met the CM, said that the latter was also in appreciation for Subramanya’s work. “During the conversation the CM said that he was also aware that Subramanya has been doing good work. However, it was evident in his words that he was under pressure from ‘some quarters.’ Later he assured all of us that he would not transfer him at this juncture”, the MLA said.

The Congress has also come in support of Subramanya. KPCC president R V Deshpande and five Congress MLAs representing the city have demanded that the government should not go ahead with its move. MLAs Dinesh Gundurao, Narendra Babu, Krishna Byregowda, Ramalinga Reddy, Haris and former MLA R V Devaraj said development works would be affected if he was shifted from the Palike.
