Empire’ challenges midnight deadline

BANGALORE: The Empire Hotel has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the City Police Commissioner's order of fixing daily midnight closure deadline for hotels and restaurants in the city.
Justice N K Patil directed the government pleader to get instructions on the matter.
The petitioner has argued that the Police Commissioner has no power to pass such orders.
The petitioner’s counsel said that only the state government has power to pass such order. The counsel said that the police commissioner’s order was without the authority of law as under the Shops and Establishments Act, only the state government has power to pass such orders.

Cannon Christ Public School in BTM Layout had filed the petition challenging the government’s decision of denying it permission to impart education in English medium.
Justice Mohanshanthan Gowder has issued notice to the government. The petitioner’s counsel argued that, the government has not complied with an order of the full-bench of the High Court on language policy.
The government rejected their application by citing that a special leave petition on the matter was pending before the Supreme Court.
