The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) office is flooded with objections to the formation of the recently-approved Shivaram Karanth Layout. Following the preliminary notification issued by the BDA in January for the formation of the layout between Doddaballapur Road and Hessarghatta Road, the agency has received over 12,000 objections. This figure, according to the sources, is till February 14, 2009. The data is, however, being compiled and verified.
"The objections are being compiled and will take another two weeks. Once the process is completed, we will get to know the exact details of the objections following which field visits will be conducted and public hearing of notices will take place," said a BDA official.
Although the land has been surveyed for the formation of 18,975 sites spread through 3,456 acres with an estimated budget of Rs1,847 crores, the BDA officials are yet to ascertain the number of revenue sites in the area. The layout will also cover some prime hoblis like Yelahanka, Hesarghatta, and Yeshwanthpur.
According to their estimate, there are over 6,000 land owners residing in the area, but how many of them own revenue sites is yet to be ascertained.
"Of this, it is also important for us to know how many revenue site owners have filed their objections for the development of the layout. All this will be known during the field survey," the official said.
According to the comprehensive development (CDP) plan, about 75% of the land would be utilised for sites and the rest for civic amenities like roads, parks, and playgrounds. The area has land holdings of all dimensions. Farmers would get developed land for the land acquired or compensation. According to the CDP, the area will be developed under public-private partnership with dual water pipeline systems, one for fresh water, and the other for recycled water.
BDA is yet to ascertain the total number of land owners. Sites of all dimensions will be developed in the layout. Since the area has no water scarcity, BDA aims to promote rain water and roof top harvesting to meet the increasing water demand. The eco-friendly layout will also give way for dedicated cycle tracks similar to that in Kempegowda Layout.
BDA aims to develop 1.5 lakh sites across the five layouts: Shivram Karanth Layout between Dodaballapur Road and Hesarghatta Road, Kempegowda Layout between Magadi and Mysore Road, Devaraj Urs Layout between Airport Road and Varthur village, K C Reddy Layout on Hosur and Sarjapur Road and S Nijalingappa Layout between Varthur village and Sarjapur Road. —Bosky Khanna
