Pioneering the concept of a shopping festival in an Indian Airport, a month-long shopping festival was launched at Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) on Friday.

The festival was inaugurated by Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure Development, G Janardhana Reddy.

The highlight of the festival is a promotional offer in collaboration with sponsors - Karnataka Tourism and Jet Airways. Passengers who spend Rs 300 shopping or buying food and beverages in the airport can exchange their bill for a lucky draw coupon. The grand prize is a family package for four on the Golden Chariot. Weekly prizes include couple packages on the Golden Chariot, international return tickets from Jet Airways for two couples and daily prizes include KSTDC couples packages. Jet Airways and Jet Lite passengers who make purchases above Rs 300 at BIA will receive two lucky coupons for entry into the lucky draw. Bangalore International Airport Limited, CEO Marcel Hungerbuehler said that airports worldwide have evolved to being more than travel facilitators. BIA is in tune with this change.

Janardhana Reddy said BIA sees about 20,000 passengers a day which means six lakh passengers can participate in the festival. He also added that Emirates Airlines is offering a special package for destination Karnataka during this period.
