BANGALORE: The state government has decided to allow film screening in the city from 10 am to 11 pm, following a representation from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). At present film screening is allowed from 10 am to 10.30 pm only.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, after discussing the matter with the KFCC office-bearers and the city police commissioner Shankar Bidari, Home Minister Dr B V Acharya said following a representation, the screening timings will also be changed. The new timings are 11.15 am, 2.30 pm, 6.15 pm and 8.30 pm.

The KFCC delegation included its president Jayamala, Sa Ra Govindu and Rockline Venkatesh.

Jayamala expressed the view that the screening timings should be uniform for both theatres as well as multiplexes.

Responding to the delegation’s plea for applying the Goonda Act against those indulging in film piracy, Acharya said it would be done soon. Meanwhile, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday chaired a meeting held to discuss the security measures to be taken to check the infiltration of LTTE militants into the state.

However, Acharya said the meeting decided to allow injured Sri Lankan civilians to undergo treatment in the state on humanitarian grounds. But the matter would be brought to the Centre’s notice.

The meeting also decided to cooperate with the Tamil Nadu government in dealing with the Sri Lankan Tamil problem. Asked whether the government would promulgate an ordinance regarding the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA), Acharya said that the need might not arise as the legislature session was likely to be convened in June.

“In case the session is not held in June, the government will think of promulgating an ordinance,” he added.
