Now, water bill printed at your doorstep!
S Lalitha, Bangalore, DHNS:
For the last one month, residents of eight areas spread across the City are being issued water bills at their doorsteps using handheld billing machines.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has introduced handheld billing machines to issue water bills at residents’ doorsteps.
For the last one month, residents of eight areas spread across the City - Chikkalalbagh, Vijayanagar, HBR and HRBR Layout, Banashankari, Yeshwantpur, Malleswaram, Johnson Market and CLR - are being issued water bills at their doorsteps using handheld billing machines. BWSSB plans to extend this facility all over the City.
The billing instrument is similar in size to that of the electronic ticketing machine used by BESCOM meter readers and KSRTC conductors.
“We started this new facility in these areas on an experimental basis. The response has been really good so far with our staff and the public expressing happiness with it. We are waiting for feedback before extending the facility to all parts of the City,” BWSSB sources said.
The new billing method is advantageous to both the sides involved, officials say. As has been the norm all these days, the meter man pays two visits to the houses falling under his jurisdiction - one day to note down the readings and take it to the Revenue Department, and on the subsequent day, to deliver the bill.
Instant rectification
The public can now get billing done at their residence; this gives them an opportunity to instantly seek rectification of any errors that crop up.
“We do get some complaints related to billing, and the affected individuals have to meet several officials to get it rectified,” a top source said.
The subdivisions selected in the initial phase encompass the Water Board’s six zones - Central, West, East, South, North and South-East.
Water connections
The number of water connections in each of the subdivisions where spot billing has commenced is between 20,000 and 25,000.
Each area is taken care of by 10 to 12 meter readers and the meter readers in these areas have been provided with a billing equipment, the source revealed.
