No rain, no respite for city

No rain, no respite for city

If dry weather persists, temp may cross 37 degrees

After Friday evening's teaser rains, a dry and hot Bangalore may have to wait longer for relief.
Meteorological department officials say they expect rains on Sunday evening to cool the city, but they leave scope for another dry day.
A Muthachami, director, regional meteorological centre, told Sunday DNA that if today goes without rains, the city would experience an increase in temperature from Saturday's maximum of 36.4 degree Celsius to over 37.
The highest temperature recorded in Bangalore is 38.3, and there is a good chance that the temperature would inch closer to that in the absence of rains. In the last decade, the city's highest average temperatures have hovered around the 36 degree-mark, with 37 being the highest in 1999.
Met officials pointed out that as the Saturday temperature tipped 36.4 degree Celsius, the pre-monsoon rains, popularly known as April Showers in Bangalore, will be expected.
An overcast Bangalore on Friday and Saturday yielded only a 0.01 ml of rain, which is not enough to cool the city, they said.
