TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: No more wait-andpark at pay-and-park bays. The country’s first Parking Information System is due to be implemented on namma Brigade Road.
Simply put, it means you can gauge the parking status on the entire stretch without travelling much. The system, set up at the entry, displays big and bold, if you have a slot to park your car.
The project has been proposed by the Brigade Shops and Establishments Association and awaits approval from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). This could be the country’s first innovative on-street parking information system.
Interestingly, it was Brigade Road that got the country’s first automated parking system.
The Rs 49-lakh proposed information system can help you locate the right space to park, without travelling much. Brigade Road has always been congested. A majority of it is due to slow-moving cars trying to find parking space along the 85 bays.
“We started working on it oneand-a-half years ago. Measurement and project details have been submitted to BBMP and once approved, the system can be set up within 30 days,” said Suhail Yusuff, association secretary.
“The system, if implemented and successful, can be integrated with the Variable Message Signs in the later stage,” said Praveen Sood, additional commissioner of police (traffic & security).
HOW DOES IT WORK? All 85 bays on Brigade Road will have sensors fitted Sensors will be connected to Central Display System Huge display board will be installed at road entry When a vehicle is parked, sensor gets covered and board shows the bay as full When empty, the sensor is exposed and indicates vacant slot
