The construction of a 100-feet link road that would cut through the University of Agricultural Sciences campus has got the college community furious.
On Thursday, the UAS community announced the formation of a joint action committee on Thursday to protest against Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) ongoing road construction activity within the campus. More than 500 people, including faculty and students, staged a demonstration and resolved to take legal action to stop the construction of the 100-foot link road.
Dr Nutan, one of the organisers and Assistant Research Director at UAS, says, “The BBMP has no right to construct the road as they have not obtained consent from the government or from the UAS community. The palike is trespassing and we plan to move the court against them. Road construction would destroy biodiversity as well as research plots in the campus,” he said.
The 4.5 km long link road would connect Yeshwantapur-Yelahanka road to Bellary road. UAS is estimated to lose 24 acres of land and around 3,500 trees to make way for the road.
