This is poll season. No wonder assurances from political parties seem to be going innovative.
The Bharatiya Janata Party's three-year action plan for Bangalore, unveiled on Sunday, with an eye on the Lok Sabha polls being held on April 23 and the forthcoming Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) polls, promises to create even a river front for Bangalore.
Expressing its commitment to protect the heritage of the city, the action plan says "the citizens can look forward to a well protected heritage of our city, including creating a river front for the city".
BJP national general secretary and Bangalore South candidate HN Ananthakumar, who released the action plan, said the Vrishabhavathi and Arkavathi river valley in the city would be resurrected by protecting their catchment area cleansing the flowing water.
The valley would be developed as a landmark river front to enhance the natural beauty of the city, he added.
Replying to queries on resources for implementing the plan, Ananthakumar expressed the confidence that the BJP-led NDA would come to power at the Centre and chief minister BS Yeddyurappa too would provide adequate funds for implementing the plan.
Resources would also be raised through other means. The public-private participation route would also be explored to execute the promises, he added.
Civic agencies like the BBMP, BDA, BWSSB would be made to achieve specific milestones, he asserted.
Resources would be better managed and Bangalore would be made a model city in the country in the next three years, Ananthakumar said.
Bangalore's population is expected to double from the current 80 lakh to 1.60 crore by 2020. The number of motor vehicles in the city has touched 37 lakh. The city is expanding in all directions.
"A time-bound action plan is required for the healthy growth of the city and to improve the quality of living. The three-year action plan is a major step in this direction," he claimed.
