Metro: HC dismisses 3 petitions

The High Court has dismissed three petitions challenging the notifications acquiring land for Metro project, on Monday.
K S Srinivasan had challenged the notification for acquisition of a portion of Lalbagh claiming that vacant government land was available for the purpose. K S Ramachandran had questioned acquisition for alignment. A special bench headed by Justice K L Manjunath which heard a series of cases in this behalf, dismissed both the petitions, along with the one filed by B V Nagesh. Medappa, who had questioned acquisition of 9789.25 sq ft on M G Road has withdrawn his petition.
An ordinance by the Secretary of the Department of Parliamentary Affairs dated November 22, 2008 permits BMRCL to begin acquisition of 1135.18 square metres of Lalbagh Botanical Gardens along the compound wall of West Gate towards the western side of the park - R V Road, for the construction of an elevated station for Namma Metro.
Application
BMRCL will file an application before the High Court seeking permission to acquire small bits of land in Cubbon Park for construction of elevated ventilators, shortly. The Corporation has identified land in Cubbon Park near Gopala Gowda Circle and a part of Cubbon Park adjacent to the Golden Jubilee Gate of the High Court for construction of two ventilators for the Namma Metro stations.
