After the recent acc ident in which four people, including three walkers, were killed by a speeding car, people from several areas in the city have taken it upon themselves to maintain footpaths in their locality.

The lack of proper pavements have forced morning walkers to use the road as footpath putting their lives at serious risk.

“Everybody is talking about road widening and other infrastructure projects but nobody has the time to think of the common man’s biggest problem— lack of proper pavements,” said A.T. Krishnamurthy, president, Visvesvaraya Nagar Welfare Association, HMT Layout, RT Nagar.

A campaign was recently launched by Triward welfare Associations Federation, RT Nagar called ‘Clear RT Nagar main road footpath for pedestrians,’ in association with BBMP.

“The first step was to remove two cars in front of Gundu Rao’s house. Then motorbikes outside a few houses followed by the clearance of Bescom poles and construction equipment and materials in front of houses under construction and garden pots in front of Nandhini hotel,” said Mr Krishnamurthy. The work, which took almost three hours, saw practically all the material on the footpath being cleared. “This campaign will be carried out frequently. The police and BBMP engineering department co-operated with us,” said the residents.

I APPRECIATE THE CITIZENS INITIATIVE IN CLARING THE FOOTPATH.
I LIVE IN ATTIGUPPE VIJAYANAGAR SECOND STAGE AND THE 14 TH MAIN ROAD CONNECTING CHORD ROAD TO CHANDRA LAYOUR IS VERY BUSY AS LTAS VEHICLES INCLUDING SOME BUSES USE THIS ROAD. MOST PART OF THE ROAD THERE S NO FOOTPATH AND WHEEEVER IT IS THE SAME IS OCCUPIED SCOOTER GARAGE OR VENDORS AND PARKING LOTS. IT LOOKS TO ME ACCIDENT IN THE HAPPENING. THERE IS NO WELFARE ASSOCIATION HERE. I APPEAL TO THE CONCERNED TO SEE THAT SOMETHING IS DONE BEFORE ANY FATAL ACCIDENT TAKES PALCE.
