All taxable properties to be listed by June

All taxable properties to be listed by June
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The mammoth task of listing each property in Bangalore using the Geographic Information System (GIS), which has been undertaken by the BBMP, may be completed before June this year.

Sources in the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS) said that 60 per cent of the work of enlisting the properties electronically has been completed.

The BBMP, on the other hand, intends to start taxing legal and illegal properties in the first week of February, and is using the GIS technique to simplify its job. KEONICS has electronically enlisted properties which are on the outskirts of the City, while the congested interior areas of Bangalore haven’t been touched yet. Huge buildings, malls, and too-small houses and slums make the work tedious, sources added.

What is making the job time consuming is making the e-registration of the properties foolproof. In this regard, the BBMP and KEONICS are verifying all the properties, besides using the satellite images. Nearly 200 field officers have been appointed to make spot visits to verify the authenticity of the property details, then write the landmarks in their records and help KEONICS officials feed minute details of every property in their electronic system.

After the physical and electronic verification of the property, the information is cross-checked, the details are fed in the electronic system, and an e-registration number is given to the property. KEONICS officials believe that this e-number will enable people to pay taxes online, help in getting ration card, voter ID besides enjoying many more facilities.

The next objective of the KEONICS is to photograph the properties, which could enable the officials to see the property just at the click of a mouse.
