BBMP: Property tax collection yet to begin

BBMP: Property tax collection yet to begin
DH News Service, Bangalore:
According to BBMP sources, the printing of the property tax guide books was still on.

The proposed property tax collection by the BBMP is set to get delayed further. This time around, it is the non completion of the printing of booklets on tax guides that is holding up the process.

According to BBMP sources, the printing of the property tax guide books was still on.

“The Corporation plans to print at least 16 lakh copies of guide books and distribute it among the tax payers,” a source said. Printing of only around 10 lakh booklets have been completed so far.

“The collection process is likely to start only when the printing job is totally completed,” he said.

No hasty work

Another source said that commencing tax collection process in a haste would lead to many other problems. A five percent discount has been announced for early tax payers.

“This will not be uniform across Bangalore if the tax collection begins early in some areas,” he said.

Hurdles

Transport Minister R Ashok, in charge of the BBMP property tax collection and the Sakrama scheme in the City, had announced earlier that tax collection would commence from February 1. However, the next day, BBMP sources told Deccan Herald that there are many hurdles to be cleared before the collection started. It was next to impossible to begin collection from February 1, they said. Tax collection did not take place on Sunday as it was a holiday, sources said.
