BBMP's tax drive begins
Bangalore, DHNS:
After going without tax revenue for ten critical months of the current financial year, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is finally gearing up to begin its property tax collection from Tuesday.

Going by the announcement made by the Palike Commissioner, Dr S Subramanya, the BBMP should start collecting property taxes from Tuesday. “Yes, we are starting the tax collection from Tuesday,” Subramanya told to Deccan Herald.

The tax collection will begin only at 271 centres across Bangalore. The collection process will be on from 9 am to 12 noon and from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

The BBMP is offering a rebate of five per cent to those who pay the entire tax amount before March 31. This year, the last date for the payment of property tax for the full year or the first half-year is April 30, 2009 without penalty. The last date for the second half-year instalment without penalty is May 30, 2009.

BBMP has published booklets pertaining to tax collection. They will be available at the tax collection centres. Each booklet will cost Rs 20. Tax payers will have to buy a property tax return form, which will be available for Rs 5. Visit bmponline.org for more details.
