The Lok Adalat has decided to refer the case of tree-felling for road widening in Sheshadripuram and surrounding areas before a single bench of the high court.

Earlier, there were differences among the members of the quasi-judicial committee on cutting trees for road widening work. Due to differences of opinion among the members with regard to the widening of road, the Environment Support Group (ESG) had asked the case to be referred to the Lok Adalat for ‘appropriate resolution.’ Noticecourt UPSC to The high on Monday issued notice to Union Pub lic Service Commission and the Union government. One IAS and IPS probationary officer each were also sent notices. The court was hearing a petition filed by Dr Sumana Arora.

According to the senior counsel for the petitioner K. Lakshminarayana Rao, the mode of evaluation for Indian civil services held in 2006 has been challenged in the petition.

The Central administrative tribunal had dismissed the challenge.

According to the counsel, Dr Arora, the petitioner, had passed both preliminary and main twice in 2001 and 2003 but failed in the interview stage.

Later, the petitioner cleared the prelims but failed in the mains due to the mode of evaluation adopted by the UPSC in 2006.
