Notice to BBMP on storm water drains

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of notices to the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the State Government, the Lokayukta and others on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition relating to remodelling of storm water drains in Koramangala and Vrushabavati valleys in Bangalore.

The petitioners, S.C. Venkatesh Murthy and three others, all residents of Bangalore, contended that there was no transparency by the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike in issuing contracts relating to remodelling of the drains.

They termed as illegal, unilateral and arbitrary the award of contracts.

The petitioners alleged that the award of contracts had led to misappropriation of funds.

A Division Bench consistting of the Chief Justice, P.D. Dinakaran, and Justice V.G. Sabhahit ordered issue of notices and adjourned further hearing of the case.
