SUBWAY READY IN 24 HRS
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has another feather in its cap. A pedestrian subway was constructed on Nrupathunga Road in under 24 hours. The road was closed on Sunday due to work on the underpass, which was built using the precast segmental box technology (also called magic box), at a cost of Rs 45 lakh. The 3m x 3m ‘box’ connects Government Arts College to the office of the commissioner of public instruction This is the fourth independent pedestrian subway to be completed by BBMP in a day’s time
Work started at 11 pm on Saturday and completed at 7 pm on Sunday. Twenty labourers were involved
Traffic will resume from Monday
BBMP chief engineer (major roads) K S Krishna Reddy says: “With effective cooperation of various agencies, it is possible to erect 20-25 such structures within a month”
