The Scomi Geo desic consortium of Malaysia said its proposed route for the Monorail project will be realigned to ensure that it does not run parallel to the Metro Rail.
Geodesic managing director Srinidhi Anantharaman and Scomi senior vice-president (special projects) Kanesan Velupillai have clarified that objections raised by Metro Rail are being incorporated in the new plan and the consortium will soon finalise a revised route map.
After the new route map is finalised, a presentation will be made on the Monorail to Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) and stake holders in city infrastructure including BBMP, BMTC, BMRC and the traffic police , said Mr Anantharaman.
Scomi Geodesic said Monorail will act as a feeder service for Metro Rail and will be integrated with the bus rapid transit system (BRTS) and other transportation systems to bring down congestion on roads.
The Metro Rail project is being carried out in two radials, the East-West corridor and North-South corridor. Scomi Geodesic said Monorail will connect the gaps between the radials.
Skyways will be used to integrate traffic transit management centres (TTMCs) with Monorail.
When asked about the cost of the project, Mr Anantharaman said, “The project is still at the planning stage and the final route map has to be decided. It is too early to arrive at a cost. Once the route map is finalised, the estimated cost can be calculated.” The executor of the project will be decided by the Swiss Challenge method.
The consortium said a detailed project report (DPR) including an environment impact assessment and environment management plan and noise-level and traffic density studies have been prepared. Aspects of successful monorail systems in other countries, especially Malaysia, have been con sidered for implementation. The solution to the traffic gridlock in the city, the consortium said, will involve a multimodal transport system.
