Learning a lesson or two from the mistakes committed while manning vehicle movement during the previous Aero Show in 2007, the city police has proposed a series of measures to ensure smooth traffic movement during the forthcoming Aero Show slated from February 11 to 15 at the Yelahanka air base. Last year, the police had made provisions for parking at one place which belonged to the Indian Air Force. On an average, over 70,000 vehicles travel on this highway and the number is expected to double during the five-day Aero India show.
Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic-West) P.H. Rane said the police identified two plots of vacant land on either side of the highway.
“People coming from Bengaluru have to park their vehicles at a place on a vacant land situated on the left which is a kilometre away from the Yelahanka air base. Similarly, the police has identified a place on the opposite side to accommodate vehicles coming from Doddaballapur and Devanahalli. Since these spots connect routes for their return journey too, congestion will not hap pen,” he explained. Mr Rane stated that heavy vehicle movement on Bellary Road will be completely diverted. On an average, between 20-25,000 heavy vehicles ply on this road every day.
The traffic police will reserve the service roads on either side of the six-lane road for VIP movement, while four of the six-lanes will be dedicated for airport goers. The remaining single track will be for the aviation buffs reaching the air base, Mr Rane added.
