Lack of footpath is posing a serious threat to the lives of students of Sophia School at High Grounds, said an angry parent who was nearly knocked down by a car.
In the absence of foot path, the students are forced to walk on the road off the Basaveshwara Circle, which is always congested.
Parents want the BBMP to speed up the construction of a bus shelter near the school.
Students, who are staying near the school and escorted by their parents, complain of overspeeding buses.
"Our children are facing the danger of being hit by motor vehicles," said Avanthika R, who just escaped from being hit by a Maruthi van near the school gate. Though a bus shelter is being constructed near the school, it will stand right on the road as there is no footpath.
Children moving from the bus stop to school could be hit by motor vehicles from behind, said Dr Reshma Hegde, mother of two children studying in Sophia.
Sister Roslyn, principal of Sophia's primary section, dismissed their fears said they had taken adequate measures like keeping a traffic police outside the gate to help children cross the roads. The school's security guards too help children.
BBMP official Govind Raj said the bus shelter would be completed in 124 days.
