I Alignment problem for elevated corridor project near Minsk Square I
The BBMP is plan ning to suggest redrawing of the plans for the High Speed Rail Link (HSRL) to the Bengaluru International Airport and its own elevated corridor project as their alignment is proving to be a problem at the Minsk Square. It plans to suggest to the HSRL authorities that the project be integrated with the elevated corridor or two tier roads.

Depending on the response it receives the BBMP may either change the alignment of the corridor or request the HSRL to redraw its plans, BBMP sources said.

“After the proposal is sent talks will be held with HSRL to sort out these technical problems. The elevated corridor is being built from Minsk square to Hebbal on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis.

If the HSRL agrees the corridor will be integrated with the rail link . However, a feasibility study will have to be done whichever way the talks go,” sources added.

The 7.9 km long corridor has been planned to decongest traffic in the northern and central parts of Bengaluru and to improve connectivity to the BIA. It will be a toll road.

The high speed rail link has also been designed to provide quick accessibility to the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) from BRV parade ground on Cubbon Road, via Minsk square. The work on the HSRL is scheduled to begin mid March.

Both projects are important to provide relief from traffic snarls and for quick accessibility to the BIA. They have been discussed at the government level and at the Bengaluru’s Infrastructure Development (Abide) meetings.
